Life In ArchitectureSo, many people have been asking me, how's architecture? Is it fun? Must be laaa since everyday draw onli. Sigh, unfortunately architecture aint just about drawing, and to make things clear to u guys out there - here's a breakdown of the subjects i am currently taking.
Architectural Design :
This is probably the most fundamental part of the course (supposedly). However, my first assignment is a weird one. To design a costume that exagurates body movements (wtf?). "The costume and movement must (re)aware us of something strange, unfamiliar and unanticipated about something we are most familiar about: our body". Gawdd that sounds more like a freakin literature question. In the end i made cyclop-like glasses...... after hours of head cracking. And i still don't get how this relates to architecture. Upcoming assignments sounds a lil more interesting : constructing a maze and a disco toilet (dance + crap = kewl).
Design Communication :
Basically this subject is to help and teach us to express our ideas into drawings or models or wateva. So far this is all about drawing practices and lots of emphasis is made on light, shadow and texture. Not a friendly change for me since im so customed to drawing cute, round, cartoonish thingies. Not very fun as we usually are forced to sit outside in the cold skecthing for 3 hours straight. Still, this is the best subject so far in my opinion =)
Construction Technology :
Physics. Just that we learn onli building-related stuff. Sleeping lecture more like it. Not to mention the lecturer is old and draggy.
City in HISTORY :
Refer to the word with caps. Clear enough? H-I-S-T-O-R-Y
In conclusion, architecture is just SO-SO for now. Havent felt any excitement in any of the subjects but thats probably cause its only 2-3 weeks into the course. Plus, it is a real dramatic change from writing and calculating to drawing and model making. I havent done any written stuff so far. It's just....different. Hope things turn out better soon.
Just pics of my room to finish my post:

My room!!! Definitely bigger than before. Check out my desktop =D

Moving On - The Amazing RaceAhhh.....university life. After a week of boring orientation stuff (not to mention the troublesome enrollment process as well), i am finally a university student, an undergraduate taking Bachelor of Planning & Design (Architecture) in the University of Melbourne (drum rolls + applause please). The week actually ended pretty well though, had my first basketball club training (which was super tiring) and we took part in The Amazing Race (super duper tiring) held by the Student Union. Was a pretty interesting idea really, finally got to experience what the people in the TV box actually do (well kinda). It was a much simplified version though, it was organized to introduce famous places of Melbourne and so we were supposed to tour around while racing and competing with other groups to earn boasting rights and umm some thumb drives (just 128). The format is roughly like the one u see on the tele, but the challenges are mainly question based (easy and stupid, which is really a shame), and we use trams (or walk) as a means of transport. But it was fun though, some challenges are more interesting like one where we have to find a bar in the area which claims to have the biggest variety of alchoholic beverages. We had to actually ask bartenders and waiters to find out which is the correct answer and stuff..... which is really the onli challenging challenge throughout the contest. Others are unfortunately just no-brainers like counting humanlike figures at a fountain. Found ourselves rushing a lot on foot since sometimes trams take some time to arrive and they just dont go everywhere (duh). And one advice to whoever's gonna take part in something like this sooner or later.......don't do it after having training in the morning. I woke up (kinda) with my body aching from tip to toe. Ouuuchhh!!!! Some parts still hurt T_T. I won't tell you whose group won, that bastard's prolly gonna say something about it on the tagboard real soon after he reads this. (biiattchh!!!)
Now back to uni stuff. Just had my first few lectures and a workshop. Half of my subjects have the potential of being fun and interesting (involves model building and drawing) and the other half is just looking like its going down the drain (CONSTRUCTION and .........HISTORY!!!!). Construction seems to be the worst subject so far, my lecturer being an Ah Pek who's just so friggin dull plus.....the subject is about physics. AGAIN!!!! Just when i thought Architecture is all about drawing and designing....think again. Design Communication workshop wasn't too bad. We were asked to draw buildings and some other stuff without lifting the pencil and like imagining the perspective and bla bla bla (we were given total freedom of drawing wateva we like without boundaries) .... but basically we just sat at the grass doodling away while enjoying the fresh air of Melbourne. Now that's what i call studying. Now i better start worrying about that History essay due in a few months......
Moving into new house tonight !!! WOOOTT!!!! =)
